Mississippi Legislature Begins 2018 Session
This week, the Mississippi legislature met to begin the 2018 legislative session. Over the next 87 days, your representatives will work to craft laws that impact the entire state.
As part of my commitment to you, I’ll be posting these weekly updates to keep you informed of what’s happening in your legislature.
On Tuesday, the House met and introduced the new members of the House. Due to several resignations, we welcomed the following new representatives:
- Missy McGee – Hattiesburg
- Stacey Wilkes – Picayune
- Kevin Ford – Vicksburg
- Cheikh Taylor – Starkville
The House considered three measures this week dealing with funding for repair of roads and bridges in the state. You can see a short explanation of each bill, the vote totals, and how I voted, on my weekly blog post here.
Most representatives spent this week drafting bills to introduce. As the session progresses, more bills will be passed out of committee and considered by the full House.
As that happens, you can keep up with which bills are coming up for a vote on my House Calendar page here. I’ve included my short explanation of the bill, and the bills are color coded based on how I’m planning to vote.
I’ll be live streaming the action from the House floor during the week, so be sure to like my Facebook page to tune in!
As always, I’m here to serve you. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments about anything coming before the legislature, please send me an email at [email protected], or you can reach me on my cell phone at (601) 207-0813.
It’s an honor to serve and represent you!
