Amazing experience with Jack Dorsey and the Block/Bitkey team!

I’ve been mostly on Twitter this week and that had to do with an opportunity with Jack Dorsey and the team at Block which makes BitKey. So, I’m going to tell you about that experience and why I’ve spent the last week or so on Twitter much more so than Facebook. All right. It started because of this cold card hack where cold card got hacked and a more than hundred million dollars of Bitcoin got lost because people were using single signature wallets from a tiny little company with an arrogant leader. Um, and I’ve done videos about that. So, a guy named British Huddle uh was ranting and raving on Twitter about how nobody could have seen this coming. And I started posting like, “Of course we saw this coming.” Like, I’ve been talking about BitKey all this time. And it was obvious that people should not have been trusting their Bitcoin to a single signature wallet made by a tiny company in Canada and all this sort of stuff. But anyway, so finally, British Hodddle posted his own video where he said, “Joel, tell us why it was so obvious. Joel, why did you know about BitKi when none of the rest of us knew about bit uh about uh BitKey and on and on and on. So, he’s just Bishuddle who has like a 100,000 followers on Twitter is basically calling me out saying, “Why did you know? Why did you know? Why did you know?” So, I uh recorded a series of videos and did a bunch of posts uh explaining why it was obvious and why everybody should be using BitKey instead of Cold Card or Treasure or Ledger or anything like that. Well, anyway, the team at BitKi noticed that I was being very active on Twitter defending their product and promoting their product. And so, they reached out to me and said, “Hey, we have this thing where every so often we do an internal live stream with our internal employees to talk about the products at our company.” Because Block, the company, makes uh Cash App, they make the Square payment terminals, and uh they make a bunch of other stuff um including BitKey, but uh that’s one of a suite of different products. So they said, “Would you like to come on and talk about your experience with BitKey and why you are such a big fan of it?” And I said, “Well, of course, absolutely I would.” Uh, so I got on there and it’s a live stream to their 6,000 or so employees. I don’t know how many of the 6,000 employees were on, but it’s a live stream to all of them. So Jack Dorsey, the founder, CEO, and chairman, of course, is on there. Uh, and then there was probably eight presenters. One second. So there was like eight presenters. uh me, Jack Dorsey, the head of BitKey, the head of all of uh hardware products uh for Block and a few other people. So anyway, they kicked off talking about BitKey. So, it was about 15 minutes, maybe 10 or 15 minutes of Jack Dorsey initially asking me questions and then uh others on the BitKey team asking me questions, primarily the main person who runs the BitKey team asking me questions about my experience, why I’m such a big fan, what do I think uh BitKey did right, what product improvements would I recommend, uh you know, what do I think BitKey ought to do in uh the context of um of the the cold card hack? And I told them I just thought it was an incredible opportunity. a ton of people that were not paying attention that thought single signature wallets like Ledger or Treasure or Cold Card were a good idea were second-guessing everything now. And then I thought it was an incredible opportunity for the BitKey team to step up and sort of reintroduce uh Bitkey to the world. So um anyway, so that was my entire pitch is there’s an incredible opportunity to educate the world about BitKey. um the the team at Square/Block/bitkey, Cash App, etc. should not miss that opportunity. And obviously, I appreciated being able to answer questions for Jack Dorsey. Um and all of that. Uh during the live stream, somebody commented cuz you know, employees and other and others were commenting in the comments. Uh somebody commented Joel for president, which is kind of cool. And then uh after I got off the live stream, somebody told me because they were moving on to the next product at Block that Jack Dorsey commented, “Wow, that’s going to be a hard one to follow.” And then they moved on. Um you know, obviously I’m very passionate about BitKey, but also BitKey is just an amazing product that they make. It really is an incredible amazing product. So anyway, uh as a result of that, I’ve spent most of my time this week on Twitter. Uh after that live call, Jack Dorsey went on my Twitter page, uh found a post where I had given away 100 Bit Key devices uh at $250 a piece, so you know, $25,000 worth of Bitcoin that I had sent people to buy BitKey devices. And so he posted in response to that, Joel is awesome. And of course, that got, you know, some repost, stuff like that as well. And it made me feel good. Um because, yeah, I I’ve got a ton of respect for Jack Dorsey. I think the products he’s made are incredible. I think he’s one of the absolute best of the good guys in the Bitcoin ecosystem and I just have a huge amount of respect for him and his company. Uh so anyway, so he he you know retweeted something I had written and posted, Joel is awesome and that was the BitKey giveaway. Uh so as a result of that BitKey giveaway, a ton of people who I gave free bits to over the last week or so have since gotten them because Bitkey was offering free shipping to everybody as a result of the cold card hack. in addition to a discounted product. And so various people have been posting uh reviews on bit uh bit key and including British Huddle, the original guy that started uh the back and forth with me that resulted in the invite uh to the block team. He recorded a video yesterday where he said basically I haven’t, you know, even though I sent him $500 to buy Bitcoin or sorry to buy Bitkey, normally I send people $250 just so it covers customs and import duties and whatever else if they have to deal with that. and he’s in uh Great Britain somewhere, I presume. So anyway, I I sent him $500. I was like, “Great. He can buy two. He can, you know, even if he has excessive import duties, he’ll still be fine.” So I sent him $500, but ultimately he posted a video saying, “I researched BitKey and I don’t need it. And here’s all my concerns and I’ve never even tried the product.” And so today I wrote a really long reply to him that basically said here’s all the reasons you’re wrong. Including you’re saying you’re not a fan of Bitkey and you’ve never even tried BitKey. Yet every Bitcoiner it drives them crazy when people say I’ve never used Bitcoin. I’ve never tried Bitcoin but here’s all the reasons I think it’s a bad idea. It’s like well why don’t you try it out first before you pontificate on all the reasons. It’s like these people that go online and write book reviews of why they hate a book that they haven’t read and it’s all secondhand, you know, I hate the book because of this and that and I heard this about it and it’s like they’re too freaking lazy to actually read the book themselves and so they just write a negative book review even though they’ve never actually read it. Well, it’s the same thing. Don’t knock Bitcoin if you haven’t tried it. And don’t write a negative or post a negative BitKey review for a product you haven’t tried. Especially if I send you $500 to buy yourself one and you don’t buy yourself one. You say, “Well, I just don’t need to buy myself one. I don’t even need to try it because here’s my concerns.” I mean, what an ignorant, foolish thing to do. That makes you look dumb. Um, so anyway, that sort of closed the loop. So, I wrote a really long post today to British Hodddle explaining all the reasons he was wrong. And I posted that to Twitter. You can go find that if you’re curious. Uh that sort of closed the loop from a week ago when he originally posted about you know calling me out specifically about why uh you know why did I know that Biti was the right solution when nobody else did and I was like well anybody first I was not the only one you know I was one of many people that saw the light. It’s just a lot of the OG Bitcoiners did not see the light because they’ve got accustomed to the products they’ve been recommending for a long time and they didn’t want to do the work of researching new products. Well, Bit Keys is only 2 years old. that came out in March of 2024 or maybe April of 2024. So, you know, they didn’t do the work. They should have done the work. They should have changed their recommendations. They should have recognized that Big Key was amazing and recommended people use that instead. So, all that to say, uh, I’ve had a lot of fun on Twitter over the last week. It’s been a lot of work. Um, now that that started to calm down a little bit, I am back focused on Facebook where the vast majority of people follow me, uh, that I have followers. So, uh, if you want me to do videos about stuff, let me know. I will try to do some videos, uh, in the coming days and weeks about literally any topic you want. Hopefully, once I get extracted from Twitter, I’ll have the, uh, mental space to think about Bitcoin as an asset rather than just Bitkey as the best, most secure uh, place to store it. and therefore we’ll be able to do some videos about Bitcoin rather than just the uh you know being a social media warrior for BitKey which I’ve done for the last week. And everything I do is free. Every all the Bit Keys I give away are all at my own expense. All the Bitcoin I give away is at my own expense. I’m not sponsored by anyone. Nobody pays me. I just recommend what I think is best to the world. And I have the net worth that I don’t have to worry about getting paid by anybody to have an opinion. So my opinions are my own. My recommendations are entirely based on my own research and what I think is best and uh and I research stuff to death. So if I say Bitkey is the best option, it means I’ve spent a yeah like hundreds of hours if not thousands of hours researching every aspect of anything that involves Bitkey. And I have definitely spent more than thousands of hours uh researching Bitcoin itself to create to you know generate my absolute certainty that Bitcoin is the future of money and the future of finance and that it is only a matter of time. Now just like with Bitkey, Bitcoin is hard to understand and it takes people a while which is why it takes takes time for Bitcoin to be adopted. Same with Bitkey. the key will be adopted you know as people understand that it’s a completely different paradigm shift and it takes people a while to understand completely different paradigm shifts um bitcoin is a paradigm shift bit key is a paradigm shift a as compared to the other ways you can securely store bitcoin so I’m here to be your concierge and your guide and your sherpa every step of the way let me know if I can be of assistance let me know what topics you’d like me to record videos about and uh hopefully I will get the time and the brain space to do more videos in the coming days and weeks and uh we will all be off to the races.
