This week the Mississippi House of Representatives met in committees to consider bills passed by the Senate. The bills approved by committees this week now await action by the full House. You can view them on the House Calendar here

Although most of our work this week took place in committees, the House passed a number of bills, including measures that deal with issues such as:

The House received a surprise performance this week from Blues legend Bobby Rush, who recently won a Grammy for his album Porcupine Meat! We passed a resolution to honor his work, you can read the full text of the resolution here.

I was honored to welcome to the Capitol the Mississippi Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, a group of social workers from across the state.

They gathered at the Capitol for their Day of Empathy, and we had a great meeting discussing the very important role that our social workers play, and some of the challenges and priorities that they are facing.

As a member of the House Committees on Youth and Family Affairs and Judiciary B, I’ve had the opportunity this year to help pass and contribute to several measures that improve our state’s Youth Court and foster care systems.

Our goal should always be to preserve and strengthen families, and support reforms that protect the rights of parents and the best interests of children.

Last but not least, congratulations to Highland Elementary School in Ridgeland for winning a Governor’s Award of Excellence for their CYCLE Kids program! The school was honored this week at the Governor’s Award Luncheon.

Their diligence in building partnerships with the community deserve recognition for making Madison County a great place to live and raise a family!

Next week, the House will spend time voting on Senate bills that were approved by committees.

Remember that you can view my House Calendar page here to see how I will vote on each bill that comes up.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions, or if I can do anything for you. It’s an honor to serve you!
