The Mississippi Legislature Begins For 2019

  |   Uncategorized

This week, the Mississippi Legislature convened its 2019 session. Over the next 86 days, your representatives will meet in Jackson to draft, debate, and vote on laws that impact our state.

This year we are looking to tackle some major issues for our state. I’ll be focusing on ways to improve our state’s economy, grow our workforce, and increase government transparency. For this year I hope to continue working on improving our education system, as well as finding ways to help address the opioid crisis our state is facing.

As part of my commitment to you, I’ll be posting these weekly updates to keep you informed of what’s happening in your legislature. Currently, members are working to draft new bills and introduce them, at which point they are referred to a committee. The House considered one bill on Wednesday which spells out the procedures for appointing superintendents who resign before the end of their term. You can read all the updates on my blog here. The deadline to submit bills is January 16.

My commitment to you as your representative is to stand up for the principles that you elected me to defend: limited government, lower taxes, and economic prosperity for all Mississippians to help move us up and out of last place.

I also remain committed to representing you with transparency and accountability. This session, I will continue to post every vote online, so you can see what your legislature is doing and make your voice heard. Each post will include all bills considered by the House with a short description of the bill, how I voted on each of them, and why.

In addition to my pledge to post every vote online, I want to be as open and accessible to you as possible. I will continue to send weekly email updates with a recap of the week’s legislative actions, and post updates to Facebook.

If you have any questions, concerns, or requests, please email me at joel@joelbomgar.com or give me a call on my cell phone at (601) 207-0813.

It is an honor to serve you, and, I humbly ask for your prayers as we seek to make decisions that help the people of our state.
